Labor Day Soap Giveaway!

It's Labor Day weekend and I have been laboring a lot this week.  You probably have too.  At the very least, you might have been out shopping for back to school items with your children.  That's a total labor of love, in my opinion.

Because we all work so hard, I've decided to do a little soap giveaway in honor of the Labor Day holiday (thank you Unions!!).  The winner will receive three tins of Seattle Sundries Soap, of his/her choosing.  A winner will be chosen at the end of the day on Labor Day (Monday 9/3).  Spread the word!

To enter, leave a comment which describes the hardest job you've ever had to do in your life, so far.

Mine would be the summer job I had where I drove a forklift at Jacklin Seed Co. during the busy grass seed harvest.  My shift was from 3am to 3pm, five days a week.  It was a real character builder.

Also, if you haven't already "liked" our Facebook page...could you, please? That would be awesome.  ;-)

the hardest paying job i've ever had was working at a dog kennel taking care of an average of 50 dogs each day, cleaning the dog runs and doing office work for 10 hours a day. The hardest "job" in my mind that i've ever done, was be a fully functioning new mom after having a c-section, and a baby in the NICU.

Not necessarily the hardest, but definitely the smelliest job I had was bottling fish fertilizer back in the 80s. The smell would be in my hair and clothes. My kids always knew when I walked in the door after work!

My dirtiest job was probably the nights I was the "dish expediter" in one of my dad's restaurants. You spent the night in this little room scraping plates and sending them to the dish room in bus tub on a conveyor belt & then unloading crates and crates of clean dishes that came up on the dumb waiter. It was hot, smelly, and gross, but you didn't have to wear a uniform & spent a lot of time laughing and joking with the waitstaff.

One of the most difficult things I've done is get my teaching degree. I didn't get paid while learning but was watched, evaluated and dealt with some really difficult children.

The hardest job I had was working on a loading soda trucks. I was in hoigh school, carried a full course load, including some college level courses, and worked 40+ hours a week. The dock was cold in the winter and hot in the summer, and always reeked of diesel fumes. It was a local soda company (in NY), and they still used the glass, one quart bottles. It was grueling work, but it definitely forged character.

The hardest job? Working two at a time because I quit one. I was a bank teller and worked nights at Target, it doesnt sound hard, but it was an adventure. I was over 18 and could work until midnight while the younger kids could only work until 10:00 pm. Oh and this was through Christmas as well. fun fun lol

either working fast food while going to summer school, or working as a cashier at night (people are not very nice to grocery cashiers) while working clothing resale during the day (people would yell incredibly offensive things at me for not buying their clothes).

The hardest job(s) I had was when I was working full-time, going to college full-time & raising my daughter as a single parent. The hard work definitely paid off though :)

I once worked as a helper for a contractor who was remodeling homes ... that was very physical, hard word. But it was also kind of fun! Thanks for this opportunity!

I've never had a hard job. I've worked at McDonald's, waitressed, cooked, admin assistant, data entry, grad student, translator, author, college instructor, system administrator, beekeeper, small business owner, mother... And not a single job could compare to the work my grandmother did. She raised 8 kids in rural Appalachia. Ten people in two rooms, no running water. My grandfather was a logger, and my grandmother kept an enormous garden, big enough to feed everyone, with plenty left over to can and dry for the winter. That was work. I've never done a thing as hard as a single day of her adult life.

In high school, I worked for a local shoe repair shop (awesome job). I once had to work the shop alone and was hand sewing my mother's sandal. I was using an awl which had a barb to grab the thread. I wasn't paying attention and proceeded to sew the sandal to my palm. I couldn't remove the awl due to the barb. I had to wait on a couple of customers before the shop owner came back and took me to the emergency room to have the awl removed. Good, clean fun.

I'd have to say that running my own small business is, at least, the most stressful job I've had. Being the the one and only person to do all the tasks, to bring in all the money, to design and make all the jewelry, while it's enjoyable, it's also difficult to find a balance. That said, I wouldn't change it for the world.
