I have two teen daughters with very, very long hair; &, as current hair fashion calls for bobbie pins, I saved a couple of tic tac boxes for then to store their pins in. it works great, keeps them together & organized, makes out easier when they travel to friends, family, or their father, & are a breeze to refill as needed. ~ Medea
Yes Anonymous, there is extra space at the top of the container. I use it to hold a larger aluminum tin filled with sea salt. When we cook, we use more salt than a Tic Tac container can hold. It just didn't add anything to the photo, so I left it out.
We love camping and are always looking for ways to save space. This is a great idea! One thing we re-use is the hard plasic Nesquick containers- the large one you can squeeze up to 6 cups of pancake mix into. We use them for potato pearls and to keep our packets of gravy or taco mixes together.
A friend of mine makes her own spices. We recycle plastic creamer containers for her. She stores her spices in the creamer containers. Large ones for the home, smaller ones for when she travels. :)
Richard, I haven't had any problems with the lids falling open. I'm sure they would become less secure over time because they're just plastic. But so far, so good.
Where did you find the printed labels? I use nestle quik to store all my important documents (title, registration, insurance cards etc.) in my rv. I also made a small sewing kit with buttons, thread, scizzors(having a sr. moment with sp) needles etc and in another one made a first aid kit.
I love this idea and it comes at a time when it will be most handy. I live in Slab CIty and it is super hot during the summer. I love my spices but the hot weather takes out the aroma and flavor...so using this method I can separate my spices into several "sets"...one for my parked 33 foot Rv in the desert, but kept in the fridge, and another set for the little "Van-Go" that I hope to travel in to get OUT of this heat! Love it! Thanks!
Mine have popped open, so now I wrap sturdy rubberbands around them to hold the tops down. I then put them (a dozen since that is how they're sold in my Sam's Club) in a ziplock bag and store them in the freezer until we travel.
What did you use for your labels?
ReplyDeleteI used Avery Clear Mailing Labels (8667) and printed them using a Microsoft Publisher label template. :-)
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely brilliant!!!!!

How do you remove the adhesive when you take the labels off?
ReplyDeleteI use my TicTac boxes for storing garden seeds :)
ReplyDelete@Anonymous--I use Goof Off to remove any parts of the stickers or glue that doesn't come off easily.
ReplyDeleteI love this! I may have to start eating Tic-Tacs just to get the boxes. How much does 1 box hold?
ReplyDeleteI like this. I hope you do not mind but I shared this on Facebook. I credited your website and placed the link to the post.
ReplyDeleteI use baby oil to remove the adhesive from old labels.
ReplyDeleteI takes a bit of soaking and persistence but is an inexpensive solution.
Great idea! Its amazing that once I see something re-purposed I can think of a dozen other uses for it.
ReplyDeletegiven "space is always an issue", don't you think you have a lot of empty space in the tote in the bottom picture?

ReplyDeleteYou could also write with a marker pen on the white lids. This could avoid the labels coming off or getting messy.
ReplyDeletelove, Love, LOVE this idea!! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely BRILLIANT! What a great way to recycle. Going to use this idea for sure. Good job.
ReplyDeletei bet you have great smelling breath
ReplyDelete:) fantabulous idea
This is AMAZING! LOVE IT! :D
ReplyDeleteDo your spices ever have a hint of mint to them?
ReplyDeleteI have not noticed any mint flavor in any of our spices.

ReplyDeleteVery clever idea! Anything you can do for space in a RV is a bonus.
ReplyDeleteHow secure is the lid?
ReplyDeleteRichard, I haven't had any problems with the lids falling open. I'm sure they would become less secure over time because they're just plastic. But so far, so good.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea! Now I just need something for liquids. I only need a few ounces.

ReplyDeleteI soaked them in straight vinegar for about 15 min & the labels came right off! :-)
